罗耀拉大学 presents the Brahms classic masterwork “Ein deutsches Requiem”

The 新奥尔良 Vocal 艺术 Chorale will join the Loyola Chorale and a professional orchestra to perform “Ein deutsches Requiem,” culminating in what will be the largest performance of the year in the School of 音乐 and Theatre Professions.

The concert, which will take place March 9 at 3 p.m. 在罗素大厅, is a part of the longstanding partnership between Loyola's choral programs and the NOVA Chorale, J说. Calloway Cieslak, events coordinator in the College of 音乐 and Media at Loyola. The 70-minute performance will feature both choirs, joined by an orchestra comprised of some of the city’s finest musicians, 他说.

“The combined forces of the NOVA Chorale and Loyola Chorale will give us a choir of more than 100, along with a full symphony orchestra,梅格·弗雷泽说, director of both Choral Studies at Loyola and the NOVA Chorale. “It’s going to be a magnificent performance, and I can’t wait to share it with our audience.”

The beloved and cherished choral masterwork, which Johannes Brahms composed between 1865 and 1868, was unique at the time for setting the Requiem Mass, 通常是拉丁语, 变成方言德语.

“This is not just a German translation of the Latin Mass but a complete departure from those texts,弗雷泽说. “Brahms used Biblical texts, not liturgical texts. The NOVA Chorale is one of the top community choirs in 新奥尔良, dedicated to making the highest quality of choral music, Cieslak说. It is a regular collaborator with both the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Loyola Chorale, and its members are mostly active singers, teachers and musicians in the city, many of whom are Loyola alumni, 他说.
